December 11, 2009   EUROPEAN PEOPLE’S PARTY CONGRESS

President of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce and Honorable President of the SME Union Serbia, MSc Milan Jankovic, attended the Statutory Congress of the European People’s Party (EPP), as the delegate of the SME Union Europe.

The Congress was attended by numerous officials from Europe, 15 Prime Ministers from the EU, and 6 from the South-East Europe, such as: German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov, President of Romania  Traian Basecu, European Parliament President Hans Gert Petering, Jeržij Busek, Rampling, etc. as well as the large number of European Commissioners and representatives of the European Council, Vice Presidents of the Governments and Ministers of the Countries in the region.

The main topics at the Congress were the economic and financial crisis and the ‘Social Market Economy’ as the solution to the crisis, climate changes, energy efficiency as well as the importance of networking of cities and regions.

On this occasion President Milan Jankovic used the opportunity to talk to state leaders from the Balkan region about the models of economic networking and regional cooperation. All of them gave full support to Serbian integration into EU, and President Jankovic talked about the economic part of the process and adjusting to EU.

President Jankovic congratulated the President of the European People’s Party, Mr. Wilfried Martens and Secretary General, Mr. Antonio Lopez, on their re-election.
