SME UNION CONFERENCE IN BULGARIA

''OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR SMEES IN TIMES OF GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS''

SME Union and SME Union of GERB Bulgaria organised the SME conference that took place in Sheraton Hotel in Sofia, on October 31, 2009. The theme of the conference was ''Opportunities and Challenges for SMEEs in Times of Global Economic Crisis.'' The conference was supported by the Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hanns Seidel Foundation, and the European People's Party (EPP).

 The speakers at the conference were: Tsvetan Tsvetanov – Deputy Premier of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumiana Jeleva - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ivo Marinov – Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria, Peter Jungen – President of the SME Union EPP, Milan Janković – President of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce, Cesare Cocchi – President of the SME Union Italy, Dimitar Avramov – President of the SME Union GERB Bulgaria, Yordanka Fandukova – GERB candidate for Sofia Mayor, etc. Simeon Dyankov, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Bulgaria gave the closing speech and presented the conference conclusions. He remarked that Bulgarian Government and relevant Ministries had taken the decisive steps in providing support to the SMEE sector and announced a set of stimulating measures.

M.Sc. Milan Janković, President of the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce greeted the participants and pointed out the importance of regional cooperation and linking of companies and entrepreneurs in times of global economic. Serbia and Bulgaria, bonded by traditional friendship, territorial closeness, similar language, good political, economic and cultural relations,  have solid basis to maintain successful economic cooperation. Also, Bulgarian experiences can be very useful for Serbia on its road to the EU accession.
